US has blocked changes to visa rules for journalists and students

The Federal District Court of Massachusetts has suspended the implementation of new US visa rules for foreign journalists, students, and exchange visitors pending the completion of legal proceedings, APA reports.

The plaintiff in this case is the nonprofit organization The Presidents Alliance on Higher Education and Immigration, which represents approximately 600 colleges and universities, and the defendant is the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. "Plaintiffs' motion is granted to the extent that it delays the effective date of the final rule," Judge Dennis Saylor wrote in his ruling.

In July, the US Department of Homeland Security announced changes to visa rules for foreign journalists, students, and exchange visitors, limiting their stay in the country to a fixed period of 240 days. For Chinese citizens, this period is proposed to be limited to 90 days.
