We have created a completely new situation in the South Caucasus, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, APA reports.
"Except for the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, the World Forums on Intercultural Dialogue have been held every two years. There was a certain interruption during the pandemic, but now we have returned to the previous schedule. I remember the last Forum held in 2024. At that time, we also discussed important issues on the global agenda. However, over the past two years, we have seen how many issues have changed in both positive and negative directions. Among the negative developments, we can mention the outbreak of new wars in our vicinity," the head of state noted.
The President of Azerbaijan cited the achievement of peace with Armenia as one of the positive developments.
President Ilham Aliyev recalled that the peace agreement with Armenia was initialed in August last year: "The location where the agreement was initialed is also highly symbolic. It was initialed in Washington, at the White House, in the presence of US President Donald Trump. The foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia signed the initialed text of the peace agreement, not a document on disagreements, in the presence of the US President. In addition, a Joint Declaration was signed. The US President signed that document as a witness. Thus, we not only restored justice and liberated our territories, but also created a completely new situation in the South Caucasus, one that had never existed before in the history of the independent South Caucasus states. Moreover, we formalized this new reality at the White House."
