We have truly succeeded in presenting Azerbaijan as a reliable and respected member of the international community, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, APA reports.
"Our international relations show that we have truly succeeded in presenting ourselves as a reliable and respected member of the international community. We already have strategic partnership relations with two superpowers. In 2025, strategic partnership documents were signed with China in April and with the United States in August. Thus, Azerbaijan has established relations with two superpowers in the format of a strategic partnership. We have declarations or agreements on strategic partnership with 10 member states of the European Union. Next year, we will host the summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and chair this important international organization, which brings together approximately 60 countries. We consider this a sign of respect for our policies, our religion, our traditions and values.
In 2028, we will host the European Political Community summit. This format has existed for four years, and summits have been held only since 2022. In 2028, the summit will take place in Baku. The European Political Community also brings together more than 50 countries. Thus, holding these two important international events in the same city, in the same country, is an indication of the respect we have earned. This is also related to the issues we will discuss during the World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue these days.
The fact that Azerbaijani society and state policy are based on multiculturalism and building bridges rather than walls has led to these important achievements. This month, we hosted the summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA). This organization, which brings together approximately 30 countries, serves to promote cooperation, interaction, and the implementation of confidence-building measures. Our chairmanship of CICA has been unanimously extended for another two years.
Last year, Azerbaijan was invited to become a full member of the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia. This format brings together the countries of Central Asia. Geographically, Azerbaijan is not located in Central Asia but in the Caucasus. Nevertheless, we were invited to become a full member of this format in recognition of the role we play in various fields and as an expression of the respect shown to us.
All this truly demonstrates the role we play and our international potential. Of course, I also believe that our experience in ending wars should be comprehensively studied," the head of state noted.
