Economic diversification is a strategic priority for Azerbaijan, Nargiz Wieck, Executive Director of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce (AHK Azerbaijan), said during her speech at the German-Azerbaijani Business Conference held in Baku, APA-Economics reports.
According to her, agriculture and food processing are among the key areas of this transformation: "Azerbaijan has a broad agricultural base, favorable conditions, and the goal of strengthening food security and increasing exports. However, the opportunities are not limited to producing more products. The main goal is to create more added value in Azerbaijan. This means processing products domestically, increasing productivity, improving quality, and reducing losses."
She noted that food production increased by approximately 10.5% in 2025: "The government's development program covering 2026–2030 envisages significant investments by the public and private sectors in modernizing the value chain.
We see demand for modern solutions in fruit and vegetable processing, dairy and meat products, grain, cooling, storage, filling, and packaging. Automation, digitalization, food safety, quality control, and energy efficiency are also becoming increasingly important. German companies can make significant contributions in precisely these areas. German engineering is known for innovative technologies, high process quality, and reliable industrial solutions.
However, the purchase price of German equipment is not always the lowest. The key issue here is the total cost over the equipment's entire operating life. This includes productivity, resource consumption, downtime, maintenance, and the equipment's useful service life."
She emphasized that German companies offer not only equipment but also long-term partnerships: "They provide engineering solutions tailored to customers' needs and can help establish appropriate financing mechanisms, including export financing and cooperation with financial institutions.
These companies support the installation and commissioning of equipment, train local employees, and transfer their knowledge and experience. Their commitments do not end with the delivery of equipment. After-sales services, maintenance, spare parts, warranties, and technical support are also part of this cooperation. For Azerbaijani manufacturers, this means having a reliable partner throughout the entire life cycle of the investment.
German solutions can also support food safety, product traceability, and international certification. This is particularly important for companies seeking to enter export markets."
