Democrats in the US Congress intend to seek the resignation of the Pentagon chief

27 October 2026 00:13 (UTC +04:00)

Democrats in the US Congress plan to seek the dismissal of US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, announced House Democratic Caucus Leader Hakeem Jeffries, APA reports.

"President [US Donald Trump] also needs to remove Pete Hegseth. Or we'll have to deal with this situation if that doesn't happen," he said in an interview with MS Now, commenting on the prospects for a Democratic victory in next month's midterm elections. "I've called for Donald Trump to remove Pete Hegseth in the spring of 2025. He (Hegseth - TASS) is completely unqualified," Jeffries added.

Meanwhile, Republican Congressman Thomas Massie confirmed his willingness to reintroduce a resolution calling for Hegseth's impeachment. One X social media user asked the lawmaker whether he would reintroduce such a resolution when Congress returns after the elections. "If he is still Secretary of Defense," Massie wrote in response.
