Unrests continue in Egypt

Protesters have overwhelmed the police forces in parts of Cairo and other cities around Egypt, chanting â€œwe want to bring down the regime, but not only Mubarakâ€. Overnight the army replaced the police in guarding government buildings and other key areas. Several tanks were parked in Tahrir Square, but soldiers did not intervene in Saturday’s protest there. Not far from the square, the army has sealed the road leading to the parliament and Cabinet buildings.
At least 24 were killed and 1100 injured during the Friday confrontations between the protesters and government forces. President Mubarak said in his televised address that he fired the Cabinet because it didnâ€™t fulfill his order not use force against the protesters. Mubarak said he respected the right o people to express their will and to hold demonstrations, but urged them not to violate laws. He said future couldnâ€™t be established on the basis of violence and anarchy. He promised to conduct democratic and social reforms and to solve the problem of unemployment.
