Baku-APA. A U.N. spokesman says three U.N. vehicles were set on fire and another was smashed by youths allied with the country’s president who is refusing to leave office, APA reports quoting chron.com website.
Acting spokesman Kenneth Blackman says a U.N. ambulance also had to flee on Thursday after security forces backing incumbent Laurent Gbagbo began pelting it with stones.
The United Nations has come under attack following the presidential election in which opposition leader Alassane Ouattara was declared the winner. The U.N. reviewed the results and certified the outcome.
Gbagbo has insisted he won and is accusing the U.N. of bias, even though he signed multiple accords calling for the U.N. to act as the arbiter of the election.
