Tbilisi hosts int’l conference on fight against tuberculosis

An international conference on the fight against tuberculosis kicked off in Tbilisi on September 18.

 

The two-day event will be attended by deputies from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan, an APA correspondent reported from Tbilisi.

 

Chairman of the Healthcare and Social Issues Committee of the Georgian Parliament Akaki Zoidze spoke of the importance of the event. He said that the conference participants will share experience in the fight against tuberculosis.

 

“The event will specify the issues to be discussed at the meeting of health ministers of Eastern Europe and Central Asia countries to be held in November in Moscow,” added Zoidze.

 

Addressing the event, Deputy Minister of Labor, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia Nino Berdzuli stressed the importance of joint fight against tuberculosis Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

 

“The fight against tuberculosis cannot be effective without political will. All members of society and government should densely cooperate in this area,” she said.

 

The deputy minister told about Georgia’s success in the fight against tuberculosis and about the challenges ahead.  

 

Azerbaijan is represented at the conference by MP Sadagat Valiyeva. She joined the discussions and told about the positive experience and success of Azerbaijan in the fight against tuberculosis.
