Azerbaijani MP Araz Alizade has proposed the ban of hookah smoking in the country.
At a meeting of the parliament’s Committee on Labor and Social Policy, the MP called for an investigation into the reason for the non-prohibition of hookah, claiming that there are some who stand behind it, APA reported.
According to him, the law “On restriction of use of tobacco products” adopted in the last session provides a ban on hookah smoking in some areas, but it is not enough.
“Many of us admitted that the diseases caused by hookah smoking are so serious. Then what impedes it complete prohibition. The circle that is behind it stands against the gene pool of Azerbaijan,” he noted.
The committee chairman, Hadi Rajabli, backed his colleague’s remarks, mentioning that restriction had already been applied in some places.
