102 religious communities were registered in Azerbaijan over the past year

Bakuâ€“APA. â€œA control over the religious processes was strengthened, activity of radical religious groups was restricted, religious education was revived and participation of believers in the political and public life was provided last yearâ€, was said in the report of Azerbaijani government on the results of 2008. The government reported that the religious situation was stable and relations between the state and religion were regulated according to the legislation last year. â€œThe commissions on the religious issues established near the city and regional executive powers supported the popularization of religious values, organized meetings and workshops for elimination of negative cases in the religious fields and almost prevented the publication and spread of harmful religious literatureâ€.

An appropriate work has been done for the registration of religious communities at the State Committee and 102 communities were registered over the past year and legal addresses of the religious communities based at home were transferred to the mosques. â€œTotally 529 religious communities have been registered in the country. Publication of the State Committeeâ€™s journal â€œState and Religionâ€, participation of thousands of listeners in 59 workshops in the cities and regions had a positive impact on improvement of religious educationâ€.
