Canada will refuse to issue visas to Russian hockey players seeking to participate in the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship, scheduled to take place in the country in late 2026 and early 2027, APA reports.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced the decision.
According to him, this is an independent decision made by Canada. Carney also added that the hockey federations of some European countries have refused to play against Russia and have urged Canada to take the same step.
It should be noted that on October 30, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ordered the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) to allow Russian teams to participate in international competitions. However, Germany, the Czech Republic, Sweden, and Norway expressed dissatisfaction with the ruling.
