Kadee Council of Caucasian Muslims Office issues fetva

The fetva was issued at today’s meeting of Kadee Council. The fetva says that month of Muharram starts on December 29 and is one of the most sacred months of Hijrah. It is forbidden to hold battles during this month. The fetva also says that Imam Hussein and supporters of Ehli-Beit were killed on the day of Ashura.
Ashura falls on January 7. Along with Kerbela martyrs, people, who died for Azerbaijan’s independence, will be commemorated that day. According to the fetva, blood donation action is held during the month of Muharram on the initiative of the Caucasian Muslims Office.
Noting the existence of freedom of religion in Azerbaijan, Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazadeh said some people committed illegal actions on day of Ashura. He said Imam Hussein’s martyrdom should be understood properly.
“Some hold pickets on day of Ashura, commit illegal acts. Beating oneself with chains, or hurting oneself is not right,†he said.
Sheikhulislam noted that akhunds should raise awareness of people.
Chairman of the State Committee on Work with Religious Associations Hidayat Orujov also underlined the importance of holding month of Muharram as a cultural event. He said actions serving the interests of some groups should be prevented this month.
