US Federal Reserve doesn’t rule out interest rate rise

US Federal Reserve Chairperson Ben Bernanke told the House of Representatives Committee that the interest rates would be increased if inflation advanced.
“Fed thinks inflation is too high and might go higher. We’ve seen some very strong consumer spending numbers and we’ve seen some strong income growth, which suggests that the economy may be stronger than we think,� he noted.
Bernanke said interest rates are at a level that is “likely to foster sustainable economic growth and a gradual ebbing of core inflation�.
The Fed has held a key interest rate steady at 5.25 percent since August, giving borrowers a reprieve. /APA/
