Russia and Türkiye will cooperate closely on ensuring security in the Black Sea region amid threats from Ukraine, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference following talks with his Turkish counterpart Hakan Fidan, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.
“We are concerned about Kyiv’s attempts to provoke vessels carrying grain to Türkiye, as well as tankers, and, of course, the ongoing threats of terrorist attacks against the TurkStream and Blue Stream gas pipelines. We agreed to cooperate closely on ensuring security in the Black Sea region,” Lavrov said.
According to him, Russia and Türkiye are working in a complementary manner on this issue.
Hakan Fidan, for his part, stressed that the Ukraine conflict is taking on a dangerous dimension for third countries: “The recent escalation of the war in Ukraine, as well as the risk of its geographical expansion, deeply concerns us. This particularly applies to attacks behind the front lines. This poses a threat to Black Sea shipping and may harm the interests of third countries. Therefore, it is necessary to prevent such actions and take the required measures,” he said.
