U.S. President Donald Trump believes that the agreement with Iran could remain in force even if Israel attacks Lebanon, APA reports.
Trump made the remarks in response to a question addressed to him during a meeting with the Emir of Qatar.
“The war in Lebanon is a small war. The one in Iran was a big one,” Trump said.
Trump noted that he was dissatisfied with Israel's attack on Lebanon shortly before the agreement was announced.
“I told them (the Israelis) that. I didn't like it. I didn't like it at all,” he said.
The U.S. leader called on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to act more responsibly regarding Lebanon.
“If it weren't for me, there would be no Israel right now. Because no president other than me wanted to do the things I did,” Trump stated.
Trump complained about the large number of casualties in Lebanon. He noted that Israel’s war with Hezbollah had gone on for far too long.
“Every time you're looking for one person, you don't have to level an entire building. There are a lot of people in those buildings, and they are not Hezbollah members. I told Israel to let Syria deal with Hezbollah. I think the Syrians would handle the Hezbollah issue more successfully,” he added.
