Under the leadership of Anar Guliyev, Chairman of the State Committee on Urban Planning and Architecture, the Azerbaijani delegation is participating in the continuation of the Second Session of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) Assembly in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, APA reports citing the State Committee.
It is noted that during the session held on May 29-30, alongside the UN-Habitat Strategic Plan for 2026-2029, the adoption of international guidelines on “People-Centered Smart Cities,” promoting the application of digital technologies for social welfare, is planned. The event will also include a high-level dialogue on the issue of housing provision themed “Adequate Housing for All,” as well as elections for the UN-Habitat Assembly Executive Board.
Within the framework of the visit, the Committee Chairman and national coordinator of the 13th session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13), Anar Guliyev, participates in several official meetings. Bilateral meetings are held with the Executive Director of UN-Habitat and heads of delegations of several countries to discuss preparations for the World Urban Forum to be held in Azerbaijan in 2026, participation in the Forum, and prospects for future cooperation.
Additionally, Azerbaijan has a stand at the Forum. The stand conveys to visitors the plans for future cities within the framework of WUF13 and modern urban planning principles.
Note that the UN-Habitat Assembly, the highest decision-making body in the field of sustainable urban development and human settlements, bringing together UN member states and key partners to discuss urban development issues, form global policy in this area, and implement initiatives towards Sustainable Development Goal 11 – to make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable. The first part of the Second Session of the Assembly was held in June 2023.
