Chinese President Xi Jinping asked Washington to maintain its opposition to Taiwan independence and approach the Taiwan issue cautiously during his meeting with US President Donald Trump, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on September 26 in a statement on the outcome of Xi Jinping’s visit to the United States, APA reports.
“Xi Jinping outlined China’s principled position on the Taiwan issue, emphasizing that the country firmly safeguards its national unity and territorial integrity, and called on the US side to maintain its correct position against ‘Taiwan independence,’ approach the Taiwan issue cautiously, and remove factors hindering China-US strategic cooperation and the development of relations between the two countries,” Wang Yi said.
Xi Jinping met with US President Donald Trump during his visit to the United States on September 23–25.
