"Mikhail Gusman is a worthy son of the Azerbaijani people," President Ilham Aliyev said at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, APA reports.

"As he himself has said, he spent nearly 40 years on a 'business trip' in Russia, but throughout those years he never severed his ties with Azerbaijan. He has always stood with us, shared in our successes and worried alongside us during our difficult days.

During the Second Karabakh War, he was practically living in the frontline area, preparing reports from there. This demonstrated his character and his devotion to his people and his homeland. He also made a significant contribution to breaking through the information blockade," the head of state noted.

President Ilham Aliyev said that Mikhail Gusman was, in a sense, speaking on behalf of those who had suffered.

"Last year, at this very forum, because of a question he asked me—if I remember correctly, he was sitting right there—he was removed from the position he had held for decades at the organization where he had devoted so much effort to its development. There were other victims in Russia last year as well. I do not see one of them here today. I hope he has not been arrested. May God grant him good health. One person was dismissed simply for asking the President of Azerbaijan a positive question. Another was declared a 'foreign agent' for expressing positive views about Azerbaijan."
