The Colombian government has officially announced the severance of diplomatic relations with Iran, the country’s Foreign Ministry said on X, APA reports.
According to the ministry, the decision was made on September 19.
Colombia’s Foreign Ministry cited the Iranian government’s alleged links with terrorist and drug trafficking groups, human rights violations, military activities beyond the conflict in the Middle East, the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, and obstacles to nuclear inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency as reasons for the decision.
The ministry noted that the severance of diplomatic relations does not mean the suspension of consular relations.
The Colombian government also announced that it had designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
