"The policy of double standards must be completely eliminated from international politics," President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue, APA reports.
"Another important issue that must be taken into account is the mechanism for implementing the decisions of international organizations. Currently, many people are talking about reforms at the United Nations. There is a sense of superiority, a belief that you will not be punished for the actions you commit against people you attack. Unfortunately, sometimes this situation continues for a long time. Therefore, there must be a mechanism for implementing decisions, including UN Security Council resolutions. As I mentioned, we were in such a situation for 30 years. The UN Security Council adopted four resolutions demanding the liberation of Azerbaijani lands. However, those resolutions were not implemented. There was no mechanism to ensure their implementation. No sanctions were imposed against Armenia. Now, when we look around, we see sanctions everywhere. When you look to the north and south of Azerbaijan, you see hundreds of sanctions being imposed. But sanctions were not imposed against Armenia. This is an issue of double standards. This is nothing but double standards. We have always fought against double standards in politics and will continue to do so. This is one of the important directions of our foreign policy because we have suffered from double standards and still feel their impact. Of course, perhaps calling what we are experiencing today 'suffering' is too strong an expression. In fact, it is not suffering, because we have already achieved what we wanted and live freely on our own lands. Nevertheless, the policy of double standards must be completely eliminated from international politics. Our society has zero tolerance for double standards," the head of state noted.
