"Türkiye and Azerbaijan are the two closest countries to each other in the world," President Ilham Aliyev said at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, APA reports.
"If you look at our political, economic, energy and transport ties, as well as relations between our peoples, it would probably be difficult to find two countries in the world that are as close to each other as Türkiye and Azerbaijan, that support one another to such an extent and are such good friends. This is a great asset for our peoples and our states. Together we are stronger. This is also an important factor for regional stability and cooperation, including the transport connectivity I mentioned earlier. At the same time, it plays an important role in ensuring security. Five years ago, here in Shusha, together with the President of Türkiye, we signed the Shusha Declaration, which elevated our relations to the level of an alliance. Thus, we are not only brothers and friends, but also allies. If anything unpleasant happens to one of the parties, the other will stand by its brother with all its capabilities, including its military potential. This is one of the very rare examples where ethnic roots, a shared culture and a common history have created such close political relations between states.
I am sure you know many examples where peoples with the same or similar ethnic roots and belonging to the same language family have failed to build such relations. On the contrary, sometimes peoples speaking almost the same language are at war with each other. We also see peoples sharing the same religion engaging in conflict. Therefore, Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations should be studied and taken as an example by neighboring countries. Neighbors should understand one another and treat each other with mutual respect," the head of state noted.
