This natural harmony in Baku between antiquity and modernity, between the preservation of historical heritage and the needs of urban planning and modernization, is a vivid demonstration of the talent of our ancestors and of how we preserve our historical and architectural heritage, President Ilham Aliyev said during his speech at the opening ceremony of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, APA reports.
“This is the second largest international event organized in Azerbaijan after COP29, which was held a year and a half ago. I believe that during these days in Baku, many guests visiting our country for the first time will have the opportunity to get to know Azerbaijan and our capital more closely, as well as to see with their own eyes the work being carried out in our country in the field of urban development. Azerbaijan is located at the crossroads of Europe and Asia and throughout history has been a meeting place of East and West, and this remains the case today. This feature is also reflected in the architecture of our country. If you walk through the narrow streets of Baku’s ancient Icherisheher and simply cross the street, you will find yourself in a completely modern environment — on the Baku Boulevard, which was once smaller but now stretches for more than 15 kilometers along the seaside. Near the boulevard are 19th-century buildings designed and built by European architects,” the head of state noted.
