If a peace agreement is signed with Armenia, all kinds of transport and other opportunities toward the West will emerge for both Türkiye and Azerbaijan, Türkiye's Deputy Minister of Trade Sezai Uçarmak said during a panel discussion titled “Azerbaijan at the Center of South Caucasus–Central Asia Strategic Partnerships: A Key Driver of Regional Cooperation” held as part of the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, APA reports.
He said there are no problems in terms of infrastructure. Thus, approximately 7,000 Turkish companies operate in Azerbaijan, while more than 3,000 Azerbaijani companies, approximately 3,200, have invested in Türkiye.
“Overall, the volume of investments between Azerbaijan and Türkiye has reached approximately $39–40 billion. This actually shows that Azerbaijan is the largest country in terms of foreign investment in Türkiye and that Azerbaijani investors can confidently trust Türkiye,” the deputy minister emphasized.
Sezai Uçarmak noted that Azerbaijan is located between East and West. On the shores of the Caspian Sea, it serves as a bridge for the East and an endpoint for the West.
“There is a need to move somewhat quickly in adopting and adapting to international rules in order to secure a share of international trade here and turn the transit of this trade into investment. Investors are sensitive. Therefore, the basic rules should be presented to people in advance. These rules should be established as fundamental principles for all investors,” he said.
He noted that there will be significant activity along the Middle Corridor between East and West, as all countries are investing in infrastructure.
