Martyrs of Patriotic War commemorated in Yekaterinburg

An event marking September 27 – Remembrance Day has been held in Yekaterinburg, Russian Federation, APA’s Russia bureau reports.

The event, held at the Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, commemorated the soldiers and officers who sacrificed their lives in the battles for the independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the country during the Patriotic War.

The participants first observed a minute of silence in memory of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Motherland.

Opening the event with an introductory speech, Asim Osmanov, Acting Consul General of Azerbaijan in Yekaterinburg, spoke about the history of the Patriotic War. He noted that although Azerbaijan had remained committed to international law and the principles of peace for many years and sought a peaceful resolution to the conflict, Armenia continued its policy of occupation. On September 27, 2020, in response to another military provocation by Armenia, the Azerbaijani Army launched a counteroffensive operation, and as a result of the 44-day war, the country’s territorial integrity was restored.

Osmanov emphasized the invaluable role of the courage demonstrated by the Azerbaijani Army in the Patriotic War under the leadership of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, as well as the unity and patriotism of the Azerbaijani people, in ensuring the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

During the event, while discussing the new realities that emerged in the region after the Patriotic War and the peace process carried out at Azerbaijan’s initiative, the historic significance of the meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the United States held in Washington on August 8, 2025, was noted.

The diplomat said that extensive restoration and reconstruction work currently being carried out in the liberated territories is continuing successfully.

The Remembrance Day event continued with speeches by representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, members of the Sverdlovsk regional branch of the Azerbaijani Youth Association of Russia (AMOR), and Mushfig Aghababayev, a lecturer at the Ural State University of Economics.
