German businesses are showing growing interest in Azerbaijan, Michael Harms, Executive Director of the German Eastern Business Association, said during a session of the German-Azerbaijani Chamber of Commerce held as part of the Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026), APA reports.
He said that bilateral trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Germany increased by more than 50% in the first half of 2026.
Michael Harms highlighted Azerbaijan's energy supplies, the Middle Corridor and logistics opportunities, emphasizing that the country also has significant potential for industrial development beyond the oil and gas sector.
According to him, the Azerbaijan-Germany Business Council should serve as a working mechanism for implementing concrete projects.
Harms added that one of the Council's main objectives should be to identify new areas of cooperation between Azerbaijani and German businesses, support efforts to remove existing barriers, and maintain a continued focus on joint projects.
Michael Harms also noted that certain stereotypes and misconceptions about Azerbaijan still exist in Germany.
“There are still some myths and biased perceptions about Azerbaijan in Germany,” he said.
The Executive Director emphasized the importance of further expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and Germany based on concrete projects and investment opportunities.
