Another case has been identified regarding the legislative regulation of internally displaced person (IDP) status, APA reports.

The provision is reflected in the amendments to the Law "On the Status of Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons (Persons Displaced Within the Country)," approved by President Ilham Aliyev.

Until now, an internally displaced person lost their status when they returned to their previous place of residence, or when they were provided, free of charge, with another residence of a specified size within the same region instead of their former home, as well as when they were provided with housing at a level determined by a special state decision.

Under the amended law, a citizen will also lose IDP status if they refuse any of the above-mentioned housing options.

According to the transitional provision, internally displaced persons who, before the law entered into force, had already been provided, free of charge, with another residence in the liberated territories instead of their previous place of residence will lose their IDP status from the date the law takes effect.

Under the new law, a person will be provided with another residence of a specified size within the region where they lived instead of their previous home. Thus, the provision of new housing by the state will serve to fully restore the citizen's property rights.
