A panel discussion titled "A fairer world is possible" was held in Baku, organized by the Directorate of Communications of the Turkish Presidency and the "Stratcom Public Forum", APA reports.
Fahrettin Altun, the director of the Directorate of Communications of the Turkish Presidency spoke about the problems in the functioning of the United Nations (UN) in his video address to the event.
The necessity for UN reforms and the search for a fair world
He emphasized the necessity of reforms within the UN: "As the Directorate of Communications of the Turkish Presidency, we support events organized under the 'Stratcom Public Forum' in 20 different countries. The problems in the functioning of the UN complicate the establishment of peace in the world. Türkiye's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan's approach is aimed at supporting reforms within the UN. The events organized by our country support dialogue among representatives of different societies. We believe today's event will contribute to efforts for building fairer world."
The international system and obstacles to global peace
Alptekin Jihangir Ishbilir, media advisor at the Turkish Embassy in Azerbaijan, stressed that the international system faces difficulties in ensuring global peace:
“There is a need for reforms and changes in the world system. In this regard, it is extremely necessary to take concrete actions. There are several organizations that contribute to global peace and security. Preventing wars means ensuring peace. However, we are witnessing how global organizations are fueling these massacres.”
The head of the department of the International Relations Analysis Center, Javid Valiyev, stated that the provision of justice is inversely proportional to the international relations system.
The department head also added that the search for justice in the international relations system is directly related to the new world order that emerged after World War II.
"We had to restore the 30 years of injustice ourselves. The main goal of our search for justice within this system is directly related to the new world order that emerged after World War II. Since this order is now disappearing, there is a serious need for the formation of a new order in interstate relations."
Media and Justice: The Problem of Information Manipulation
According to Vusala Mahirgizi, the Director Genereal of APA Media Group, the important topic discussed today—working for a fairer world— of course, cannot be achieved without media: “However, as a representative of this profession, I regret to say that today it is difficult to claim that the media works for global justice.”
Vusala Mahirgizi noted that in some cases, the media’s work leads to escalating wars and facilitating information manipulation more than establishing justice in the world: “Once, one of the ambassadors from Western countries told me that the Azerbaijani media had presented a fair and objective position on the Russia-Ukraine war, providing the viewpoints of both sides, and they had been following it closely and thanked us. At that time, I also stated that this is the role of the media; the role of the media is not to highlight the position of one side of the conflict and leave the other in the offside. This can only understandable to the media of the country involved in the conflict.”
The Role of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Joint Media Platform
Sərdar Gündoğan, the representative of the Turkish Maarif Foundation in Azerbaijan, touched upon the relations between Türkiye and Azerbaijan in the field of education:
“In our country, 136,000 foreign students are studying, of which 27,000 are Azerbaijanis. As the Turkish Maarif Foundation, our organization has official representatives in 56 countries. In the countries where we operate, our foundation provides scholarships to 70,000 young people.”
After the panels, a question-and-answer session was held.
At the end of the event, the participants were presented with commemorative gifts.
