Chairman of Press Council makes report on last yearâ€™s activity

Members of the Management Board reviewed the draft Conception for State Support to the Development of Mass Media in Azerbaijan Republic. Chairman of the Press Council Aflatun Amashov underlined that official bodies, experts, public organizations, famous media representatives and members of the Council closely participated in the preparation of the document. Final variant of the conception was approved at the meeting and decision was made to present it to relevant government agencies. Following this, chairman of the Press Council made report on the councilâ€™s activity in 2007. According to the report, the Press Council received 351 complaints last year. 100 of them are from the regions. 219 of the issues were solved in the secretariat. Others were considered by the Management Board of the council. The Press Council received over 500 appeals in connection with racketeering.
The council passed decisions basing on 12 references of the Commission for Complaints and Baki xeber newspaper was admitted to the Press Council. /APA/
