Appeal has been filed against the decision of Sabayel district court about editor-in-chief of Senet newspaper Samir Sedagetoglu and publicist Rafig Tagi to the Supreme Court, head of the journalists’ rights defense committee Raset Pirisoyu told APA. The lawyer said though their colleagues wanted to meet with Samir Sedagetoglu the administration of jail #5 in Khalaj did not allow them in.
“So the writers will appeal to Justice Ministry’s Penitentiary Service,” he said.
Noting that Rafig Tagi and Samir Sedagetoglu feel normal the committee chief said they are concerned about their life.
“Samir Sedagetoglu’s family has recently appealed to National Security Ministry and Justice Ministry for ensuring his security,” he said.
Samir Sedagetoglu and Rafig Tagi faced charges under articles 283 (stiring up national, racial and religious enmity) of the Criminal Code and Sebayel district court sentenced them to 3 and 4 years correspondingly.
They were sentenced for the article entitled “Europe and we” published in Senet newspaper on November, 2006.
Appeals Court upheld the decision of Sabayel district court.
