Day.az editor-in-chief Elnur Baimov: I am satisfied with our results
- I am really satisfied with our job. Sure, this satisfaction is related to the reached results within four years, but it is not enough. We strive to get ahead that’s why we are working on new projects.
- Could you be so popular if Day.az were in Azerbaijani language?
- After Azerbaijan became independent although our generation started to get education in Azeri they still read news in Russian. It is a contradiction but it is a reality. Russian- language newspapers are most read ones in Azerbaijan. I think the situation will not change in 5 or 10 years. There will more need for Russian language products in news market. I confess that we would be so successful if we had operated in Azerbaijani.
- How many readers have you got?
- About 27 thousand people read us throughout a day. The number of readers rises tremendously on special days. For example we had a total of 35000 hits on the high-rise building collapse in the center of Baku.
- Why does Day.az quote information agencies most of all?
- It is a new model in Azerbaijan that we applied. We want to let readers know all important news. The reader is interested in the news, and it is our job to cooperate with its source. All information portals of the world use agencies’ service.
- Day.az is often presented as Anar Mammadkhanov’s website. Why is it so?
- Anar Mammadkhanov is the founder of Day.az. The cause of this presentation is this. Anar Mammadkhanov was the active member of our team during these four years, he was with us while solving all the strategic issue. But Mammadkhanov never joined the effective management of Day.az.
- What steps are you taking to eliminate obstacles on the activity of Day.az internet radio?
- Conservative representatives of several state bodies were anxious about such development of the Internet in Azerbaijan when Day.az internet radio started operating and caviled at our radio. And as a result the development of the radio stopped. But our radio is operating at present and it has ten thousands of listeners. We have started to broadcast news footage recently. Now we are establishing a video studio. After completing these works, we will present 5-minute debates to the readers. Our technology gives us chance to broadcast video footage in small size. We will post footage so that all our readers can watch them. I think it would be an alternative television. I have no doubt that it will have great prospects. But I do not know how will be the reaction of several conservative state officials to this. In fact, we were able to open Day.az internet television long ago. But the speed of user’s internet in Azerbaijan is not satisfactory. Therefore, Day.az will broadcast video footage for the present. We always wished to open traditional radio, television. A lot of measures should be taken for it. But there is no chance for it yet. Frankly speaking, I believe prosperous future of the Internet, and plan to implement many projects in this sphere.
- Are you planning to launch Azeri version of Day-az?
- Regrettably, reading news on the Internet is not so popular in Azerbaijan. However, we shall resume Azeri version of Day.az by the year end. /APA/
