Irrigation canal worth $115 mln. to be constructed in Garabagh

The construction of a main irrigation canal from the Giz Galasi reservoir will begin, APA reports, this is reflected in the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers' 2024 report.

It was noted that within the framework of the project, an irrigation system will be established to cover 8,400 hectares of land in the Jabrayil and Fuzuli districts, and to improve the irrigation system for 252,000 hectares of agricultural land in the Mil-Mughan Economic Region. The project envisages the construction of a main canal with a length of 52 km and a water-carrying capacity of 50 cubic meters per second, as well as a pipeline system with a length of 213 km in the area of the Giz Galasi reservoir on the Araz River.

The total cost of the project has been determined to be $115.18 million. Of this amount, $18.45 million will be covered by the participation share of the Azerbaijani government, $96.48 million will come from loan funds, and $0.25 million will be covered by grant funds.

The Islamic Development Bank will participate in the financing of the project.
