The construction of the Aghdam-Asgeran-Khocali-Khankendi highway is rapidly progressing, APA-Economics reports citing the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads.
It was noted that the Aghdam-Asgeran-Khocali-Khankendi highway begins from the Barda-Aghdam highway and has a total length of 33.6 km.
The first 11.7 km of the mentioned road is being reconstructed in accordance with the II technical category of the project, while the remaining 21.9 km is being reconstructed according to the I technical category. The width of the roadbed is 15 meters and 26.5 meters, respectively, and the number of lanes is 2 and 4 lanes. The shoulder width for each direction is 3.75 meters.
Currently, earthworks are being carried out along the project. This includes the removal of unsuitable soil using special equipment and replacing it with suitable material to reach the required height, expanding the road and bringing it to profile, and constructing the road pavement. Sections where the roadbed and foundation are ready are being asphalted. Already, 2 layers of asphalt-concrete covering have been laid on a 3.6 km section.
In addition, the construction of 148 rectangular and circular drainage pipes of various diameters, as well as crossings, is underway, and work in this direction is ongoing. Of the 6707 meters long retaining wall planned in the project, 4397 meters have already been constructed.
In parallel with these works, the construction of 5 bridges with 1 and 3 spans is also progressing rapidly. The bridges are being built at the 1.6, 4.4, 7.2, 9.6, and 14 km sections of the road.
The overall physical progress of the project is 72%.
The Aghdam-Asgeran-Khocali-Khankendi highway will facilitate movement in the region and have a significant impact on the development of agriculture and tourism.
The road will allow drivers and passengers wishing to travel from the Barda direction to Khankendi, Shusha, and Lachin cities to continue their journey quickly and safely without entering the city of Aghdam by using this road.
