The Kp geomagnetic index is currently varying between 1 and 2 (maximum 9), but it will gradually increase on September 27-28, Elchin Babayev, deputy director of the Shamakhi Astrophysical Observatory named after Nasraddin Tusi of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, told APA.
He said that magnetic perturbations and even G1-class geomagnetic storm and G2-class (while the maximum scale is G5) are expected on September 27-28.
According to him, the geomagnetic storm is mainly due to the high speed of the solar wind originating from the "medium-sized coronary hole" currently available on the surface of the Sun.
“The current speed of the plasma wind reaches 315km/s, but on September 27-28 this speed will increase significantly. The atmospheric pressure relatively rises and it increases the negative discomfort effects,” he added.
