The United States will permanently require visa bonds of up to $20,000 for citizens of 50 countries applying for certain non-immigrant visas starting August 3, APA reports.
According to a notice issued by the U.S. Department of State, the measure formalizes a pilot program launched in August 2025, under which nationals of selected countries were required to pay visa bonds ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 to help ensure they depart the United States before their authorized stay expires.
The pilot program covered 50 countries, including 30 African nations.
Under the new decision, the temporary program introduced on August 20, 2025, will become permanent.
The notice states that U.S. consular officers may require applicants for B-1 (business) and B-2 (tourism) non-immigrant visas to post a visa bond of up to $20,000 as a condition for visa issuance.
