Ukraine-Russia peace talks could get a new chance in the near future. Washington says it is preparing new diplomatic efforts, according to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's comments on Fox News.
According to Rubio, Washington will spend the next few weeks working to determine whether talks between Kyiv and Moscow can be resumed and whether progress can be made toward ending the war.
"You gonna see some efforts over the next few weeks, to see if we can restart talks between the two sides and bring this war to an end," he said.
At the same time, the US secretary of state stressed that fundamental differences between the two sides remain the main obstacle.
"We also understand that both sides have some pretty strong red lines, and until we can bring those red lines a little closer together, we will not gonna be there," Rubio said.
Ukraine has repeatedly said it is ready to continue negotiations with Russia, but only if they are aimed at reaching a ceasefire.
The Foreign Ministry has stressed that the previous round of talks in Istanbul effectively came down to discussions about a prisoner exchange, while Russia continued to put forward demands in the form of ultimatums.
