A meeting was held in Istanbul between Azerbaijan's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov and Türkiye's Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar to discuss issues related to the implementation of the "Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan)-Türkiye Energy Interconnector" and the "Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor" projects, the Ministry of Energy told APA-Economics.

During the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the development of the strategic energy partnership between the two countries across all areas. It was emphasized that the political will and support of the heads of state have played a decisive role in implementing electricity projects similar to major initiatives such as the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline and TANAP.

The results of the studies conducted by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye (TÜBİTAK) on the Azerbaijan (Nakhchivan)-Türkiye Energy Interconnector were reviewed. It was noted that transmitting 1 GW of electricity from Nakhchivan to Türkiye at the initial stage is considered a promising option. It was also stated that the project would, in the future, enable the transmission of electricity to Türkiye not only from sources in Azerbaijan but also from Central Asia. The prospects for the participation of Azerbaijani and Turkish investors in the project were assessed.

The sides also discussed strengthening the contractual and legal framework for the "Project on the Transmission and Trade of Green Electricity between Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye and Bulgaria," as well as issues related to the feasibility study and the establishment of a Joint Venture. It was agreed to accelerate the implementation of the project.

In addition, information was provided on the results of the feasibility study confirming the viability of the Caspian–Black Sea–Europe Green Energy Corridor project, and opportunities for cooperation with Türkiye on the project were assessed.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation in the context of Türkiye's hosting of COP31 and the next meeting of the Azerbaijan-Türkiye Energy Forum.
