An official reception was held in Baku on May 26 to mark Georgia's Independence Day, APA reports.
The event was attended by Georgia's Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, Georgia's new Minister of Culture and Sports, Tika Rukhadze, Speaker of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, Sahiba Gafarova, members of the Azerbaijani Parliament, and other officials.
Opening the event with a welcoming speech, the ambassador noted that May 26, 1918, is remembered as a historic day that laid the foundation for Georgia as an independent, democratic, and legal state.
The ambassador went on to thank Azerbaijan and its political leadership for their strong support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, and declared full readiness for cooperation to preserve regional peace and stability.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis conveyed the sincere congratulations and best wishes of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on the occasion of Georgia’s Independence Day. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova noted that Azerbaijan and Georgia share deep historical roots in their relations, emphasizing that for centuries, the peoples of both countries have lived together in friendship and good-neighborliness, consistently supporting each other.
