Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. “Azerbaijani citizens’ detention in Iran is an unpleasant case,” Azerbaijan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov told journalists, APA reports.
He said that frequency of such cases causes public concern: “As a government agency, we are also concerned over this issue. It is the duty of the Azerbaijani government and diplomatic representatives to legally assist the citizens detained or arrested in other countries. We're dealing with it. The diplomatic representatives have taken necessary measures on Azerbaijani citizens’ detention in Iran and appealed to the Iranian side. Investigation has been conducted into their whereabouts. The Iranian side has not still revealed the reasons of our citizens’ detention. Anyway, all issues will be clarified. If our citizens, detained in Iran are innocent, the Azerbaijani government will do its best for their release.”
