Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has expressed confidence that progress will be made in the implementation of the International North–South Transport Corridor project in the near future, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

He made the remarks at a press conference following talks with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jeyhun Bayramov.

"The situation regarding our trilateral North–South Transport Corridor project gives grounds for optimism. Our Iranian colleagues recently informed us that the process of allocating land plots for the Rasht–Astara railway section has been completed. This issue had so far prevented the relevant work from beginning. Earlier this month, the heads of the Russian, Azerbaijani, and Iranian railways met to discuss the start of practical work now that the land issue has been resolved. I believe we will witness progress in the near future. All three parties – Russia, Azerbaijan, and Iran – are interested in this project," Lavrov stressed.
