Baku. Victoria Dementyeva – APA. “Hundreds of thousands of Georgian and Azerbaijani citizens are unable to return home, because these homes no longer belong to them for some political reasons. As a result, the people can not return to the lands where their relatives’ graves are. All these are the games of the super powers,” said Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili addressing the South Caucasus Forum in Baku, APA.
Saakashvili noted the importance of Azerbaijan as an energy-rich country: “Azerbaijan is a good example of stability, economic power and independent policy in the Caspian region. I hope that in the long run, the South Caucasus will become a united region, Armenia may also enter it. Armenia is in need of relations with the neighboring countries, it can not be an isolated country. I am sure that we can integrate Armenia into a zone of stability. However, this should not take place as a part of political liberalization. This should be done not only through joining Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project, but also through the political solution.”
Saakashvili said Azerbaijan's foreign policy had not changed: “The world should not allow the violation of stability in this country. By the example of this country, we have seen to what an independent policy can lead. No one expected such processes to happen in Georgia, but it happened. However, Azerbaijan is a successful country standing on a solid foundation and we hope that it will not change. We wish such a fate to ourselves, because we learn lessons from our mistakes.”
