At the forum moderated by director of the Library of Alexandria and co-chair of Nizami Ganjavi International Center Ismail Serageldin, Queen Noor of Jordan said within a short period of time Azerbaijan developed rapidly. Speaking about Nagorno Karabakh conflict and its consequences for Azerbaijan, Queen expressed her regret and wished soonest settlement of the conflict.
“The settlement of this conflict is promising not only for the sides, but also for all the countries of the South Caucasus,” he said.
Addressing the forum, co-chair of Nizami Ganjavi International Center, former Latvian President Vaira Vīķe-Freiberga stressed the forum is a very important event. According to her, the South Caucasus is a quite vulnerable and strategic region for the world: “The Nagorno Karabakh problem in this region is unacceptable. The occupation must be ended in the region, equality of nations and inviolability of borders must be restored.”
Stressing the importance of the forum for the region, Former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, the Club of Madrid president Wim Kok shared his good impression on Azerbaijan: “Azerbaijan is the most important country in the South Caucasus. There are a lot of people speaking in various languages in the country, generally entire region.”
The two-day forum is attended by Queen Noor of Jordan, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General Nafis Sadik, former Turkish President Suleyman Demirel and ex-presidents of several countries. In general, about 200 well-known political figures from more than 40 countries are participating in the forum. The forum will focus on women's issues, inter-religious and intercultural dialogue, the ongoing processes in the region, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and other conflict zones in the region.
