Baku. Victoria Dementyeva. Baku hosted an event dedicated to the 64 anniversary of the establishment of the North Atlantic Alliance. The event has been organized by Azerbaijan-NATO Cooperation Institute, APA reports.
The event has started with opening speech of Azerbaijan-NATO Cooperation Institute Farrukh Mammadov. He talked about the history of NATO. F. Mammadov noted that Azerbaijan and NATO started cooperation 20 years ago but today Azerbaijan is not ready for integration into NATO, “Despite 20-year cooperation with NATO, Azerbaijani society knows little about the Alliance," - said Mammadov.
He said the aim of Azerbaijan-NATO Cooperation Institute is to inform the public about the activities and standards of the Alliance. According to him, Azerbaijan does not fully correspond the standards of the organization.
Mammadov also expressed his gratitude and presented diplomas to a number of NATO-member states’ ambassadors, public and political figures, as well Mass Media representatives for the cooperation with the Institute and highlighting the activity of the Alliance.
APA news agency was also awarded with the honorary diploma for its support of Azerbaijan-NATO Cooperation Institute in the 64th anniversary of the Alliance.
Diplomas were also awarded the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Azerbaijan Arjen Uijterlinde and Ambassador of Romania Cristian Ciobanu, who said that the relationship between NATO and Azerbaijan is actively developing. As an example, he cited a number of successful joint projects, including demining projects that are being implemented in Azerbaijan.
Mammadov said that the Institute will continue to organize events to commemorate the 64th anniversary of NATO. In the autumn of this year Baku conference of the Alliance “NATO and the South Caucasus” will take place with the participation of general secretary of the Alliance.
