According to him, both Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Tabriz and our embassy in Iran are keeping in touch with the relevant agencies of this country: “The Consulate General has been instructed to meet with our detained citizens and we are keeping contact with Iran to solve this issue.”
Commenting on the reports that during his visit to Iran Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh will request the release of our arrested citizens, Khalaf Khalafov said that in Azerbaijan the religion is separated from the state: “We regard Allahshukur Pashazadeh’s visit to Iran as normal. The visit will take place within the program. As regards raising issue before the relevant agencies for the protection of Azerbaijani citizens, of course, this can be the initiative of Allahshukur Pashazadeh.”
