The discussions are being held at the Information Session of the Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) at the Azerbaijani Parliament, APA reports. During the discussions, chair of the GOPAC Board of Directors Edgardo Angara said that the world is changing very rapidly, young people’s expectations are increasing and it is becoming difficult to fulfill them.
He noted that youth initiatives in the political systems under a rigid control play an important role: “In some cases, the management does not meet the needs of young people, this was the cause of the Arab Spring. GOPAC aims to improve management. The main office of GOPAC is located in Ottawa, but it has also offices in Africa, South-East Asia and Central America. We would like to ensure a good management to lead people out of poverty. We must find the national solutions of the problems in each country.”
Deputy chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Valeh Alasgarov said that in recent years, Azerbaijan has carried out major reforms to combat corruption and these reforms are further deepening. Stating the parliament’s role in the solution of corruption problems, he informed about the parliament’s activities in approval of international convention in the field of legislation. Noting that central and local anti-corruption authorities were established in Azerbaijan, Valeh Alasgarov initiated to hold the 6th conference of GOPAC in Azerbaijan, 2015, it was not objected.
