Victoria Dementyeva – APA. “The European Union sees Azerbaijan as a reliable partner and is interested in expanding and deepening the relations,” said EU Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Štefan Füle while delivering a lecture on Azerbaijan-EU relations at Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy, APA reports.
Štefan Füle said that basing on mutual respect and common interests, bilateral relations cover all spectra, from the development of cooperation with civil society up to the cooperation in education and cultural spheres.
The Commissioner underlined EU attaches a great importance to the relations with its eastern neighbors and the Eastern Partnership program creates an opportunity for establishing relations between Azerbaijanis and Europeans.
Touching on the cooperation in the field of education, Štefan Füle called on the students to actively use education opportunities within the EU programs in Azerbaijan.
Štefan Füle stated that the EU expects Azerbaijan to hold the upcoming presidential elections in accordance with the commitments undertaken before OSCE, the Council of Europe and the other international organizations. He urged Azerbaijan to further continue reforms for improving election process, ensuring the independence of judicial system and human rights.
