Intergovernmental cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan is developing primarily within the framework of the Intergovernmental Commission headed by the prime ministers of the two countries, while interparliamentary dialogue has also intensified, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said at a joint press conference following talks with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

Lavrov said intensive dialogue between the two countries also continues at all levels through their foreign ministries.

He noted that one of the main topics discussed during the bilateral meeting was trade and economic cooperation, highlighting the positive growth dynamics in this area.

"It was confirmed that both sides are interested in further increasing bilateral trade turnover. Last year, bilateral trade reached nearly $5 billion. Russia remains one of Azerbaijan's main trading partners, and there is significant potential to increase both trade turnover and direct investment," he said.

According to the minister, Russian investment in Azerbaijan amounts to around $11 billion.

Lavrov stressed that particular attention during the meeting was paid to restoring full-scale cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian, and educational fields.

"We also held detailed discussions on pressing regional and international issues. We particularly emphasized the importance of our cooperation in ensuring stability in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region," the Russian foreign minister added.
