"I am against the deportation of Palestinians from Gaza because this is fundamentally an important position, and living in Gaza is the right of the Palestinian people," said former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, during the "Towards Peace" panel organized within the framework of the 12th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
He also emphasized that there is no unanimous position on this issue within the Israeli government:
"The conflict between Israel and Palestine began with the attack on October 7. This cannot be forgiven. At that time, several leaders made statements affirming Israel’s right to take measures in response to this attack. Hamas militants, hiding in Gaza, killed hundreds of people, resulting in a severe crisis. Over 200 of our compatriots lost their lives in those events. Let’s imagine that we have defeated Hamas. Even without this organization, there are still 2 million Palestinians in Gaza and 3 million in the West Bank. How should we communicate with them? There is no unanimous position on this issue within the Israeli government. The main goal is to ensure the return of all hostages. Many Palestinians also lost their lives as a result of the events in Gaza. We want Palestinians to live in Gaza. For instance, many years ago, Ariel Sharon wanted to remove them from the region. We believe that the League of Arab States should support any agreement reached regarding the conflict."
