Strasbourg. Fuad Gulubeyli-APA. FIFA is accused of taking bribes from Qatar for giving it the right to host 2022 World Cup. APA’s Europe bureau reports that former French President Nicolas Sarkozy and UEFA President Michel Platini are also named in this case.

The article “The Qatargate” published by France Football magazine says that FIFA passed the decision to hold the World Cup in Qatar at the voting on December 2, 2010 and the results of the voting were rigged. The magazine writes that prior to the voting a certain agreement was reached regarding the decision. It is claimed that FIFA and Qatar reached an agreement, a secret meeting was held at the Élysée Palace 10 days before the voting.

France Football magazine has obtained an internal e-mail, where FIFA secretary-general Jerome Valcke wrote “They bought 2022 World Cup”.

The magazine describes a meeting between the then French President Nicolas Sarkozy, the incumbent UEFA President Michel Platini and the Qatari crown prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani in 2010. Platini later opted for Qatar during the vote, while the crown prince has since bought Paris St. Germain, making it one of the strongest football clubs in Europe, and launched beIN Sport in France. These large-amount investments guaranteed the votes of FIFA Executive Committee members not for the US, but for Qatar.

After these claims, the chance of the US to host 2022 FIFA World Cup has increased. They intend to campaign on this issue. If these claims are confirmed, the US may host the championship.

In its turn, FIFA told Agence France-Presse that the claims are slander and it is not going to give additional comments on this.
