France secured the top spot in their Group I at the FIFA World Cup after Ousmane Dembele's hat trick helped the team beat Norway 4-1, APA reports.
The 2022 finalists took an early lead when Dembele scored in the 7th minute and doubled the lead in the 20th. Norway, which rested its star Erling Haaland and many other members of the squad ahead of the knockout stage, got one back just a minute later with a strike from Thelo Aasgaard. The Scandinavian team's hopes of tying the score were short-lived as Dembele scored his third goal of the night in the 31st minute of the game and Desire Doue set the final score in the 94th minute.
Norway will play Ivory Coast in the round of 32, while France will face the third-placed team from Group C, D, F, G or H.
