Emam Ashour scored for Egypt in regulation time (13th minute). In the 55th minute, Mohamed Hani scored an own goal. Late in extra time, Australian goalkeeper Matthew Ryan replaced Patrick Beach before the penalty shootout. The Egyptian players converted all four of their attempts.
Egypt finished second in Group G, while Australia finished second in Group D. In the Round of 16, Egypt will face the winner of the match between Argentina and Cape Verde, which will take place on the night of July 4, Moscow time.
